ISLAMABAD: The three-day Girls Sports Carnival concluded at Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday.
The event brought together about 4,000 athletes from across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The event was organised by Federal Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and Federal Directorate of Education.
The final day of the carnival was a place of entertainment for the fans. There were scenes of best performances on cultural and sports, national songs.
The carnival was aimed to empower young girls through sports, providing them a platform to showcase their talents in various disciplines such as athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, tennis, performances on cultural and sports national songs.
Ambassador of Austria to Pakistan Andrea Wicke visited all the stalls in the carnival and said he was feeling happy. He appreciated these efforts and also shopped from the stalls.
Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz Akbar, Army Public School System Rawalpindi representative Brigadier Dr Mohammad Naveed and representatives of the FBISE and FDE were also present.
Secretary Education Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani thanked the participants and said: “I am very happy to see such a large crowd and such a successful festival organised for women.”
“Finale of girls sports carnival brought more power to daughters from every corner of Pakistan. Pakistan can’t grow if we don’t invest in our girls’ education, nutrition and sports,” he said.
Federal Board Chairman Syed Junaid Akhlaq said the board was not only in the forefront in the field of education but was also playing an active role in the field of sports and will make efforts to organise more sports competitions.
He said preference will be given to female participation.
Cash prizes, medals and certificates were distributed among the sports teams from all provinces and the participants congratulated the winning teams and encouraged those who did not get a position in the competitions to work harder so that they would improve their performance.
